An anime series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” set in the Cyberpunk 2077 game universe will be created by Polish games developer CD Projekt in cooperation with Japanese Studio Trigger and Netflix platform.
The premiere of the series is scheduled for 2022. CD Projekt is the producer of the series, the company has created the setting and script for the series and a decisive influence on creative and artistic vision.
A team of six people are working on the series on the company's side. Depending on the needs, the project will receive additional help from animation specialists from CD Projekt.
"Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" will be a 10-episode tale of a street boy who tries to survive in a dangerous city set in the future, incorporating modern technologies and body modification. In order to survive, he decides to go all out and become one of the edgerunners, outlaw mercenaries also known as cyberpunks.
The series will be animated by Studio Trigger, valued by fans of Japanese animation for its unique and extremely dynamic style.
“We are glad that we will be able to tell the world a new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, together with CD Projekt. Creating anime in this universe is a challenge that we will gladly face”, said Masahiko Otsuka, the head of Studio Trigger.
CD Projekt announced the series during the Thursday Night City Wire event. During the show, a new trailer of "Cyberpunk 2077" was also presented. The release of the game is scheduled for November 19 this year.
