“I have won the first round thanks to your votes, I have won in a decisive manner. This is an immense winning margin and I am most grateful for it,” Andrzej Duda, the incumbent President said after the announcement of the results of the exit poll after the first round of the presidential elections.
“I also wish to congratulate all my competitors, including in particular Rafał Trzaskowski, whose good election result is about to propel him to the second round, where we will compete for the presidency” Mr Duda said.
“Our visions of Poland - mine and that of Mr Trzaskowski and his party - differ vastly, just as they did back in 2015” he added.
In his speech, the President also addressed the electorates of his competitors. While speaking to voters of right-wing Krzysztof Bosak, President Duda stressed the importance of the strong position of Poland. He also addressed the supporters of agrarian Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and emphasised the role of farmers and traditional values, and he spoke about the needs of poor and excluded people while addressing the electorate of left-wing Robert Biedroń.
The exit poll results prepared by the IPSOS institute show that President Andrzej Duda got the highest number of votes (41.8 percent). He is followed by the Civic Platform candidate Rafał Trzaskowski with 30.4 percent.
The next three candidates in the ranking are: an independent candidate and a journalist Szymon Hołownia who gained 13.3 percent and Krzysztof Bosak, representing the right-wing Confederation with 7.4 percent. Turnout reached 62.9 percent.
The second round of the elections will take place on July, 12.
