Polish photographer wins Wiki photography-competition

The Polish photographer Marek Miś has won one of the categories in the Wiki Science Competition (WSC), an international photographic competition focusing on the sphere of science. Participants upload thousands of photos to Wikipedia, greatly expanding the site while also taking part in the competition.

Mr Miś entered the WSC with a photo showing a daphnia giving birth, captured at 100x magnification.

The jury stressed that the picture is strong on many levels, being technically proficient while clearly presenting the recorded subject. At the same time, the jury deemed the photo to have a beautiful palette of colours while also capturing an extraordinary moment in nature.

The first prize is another Polish success following the first place won by a Polish photograph at the 2019 Wiki Loves Monuments competition, featuring 200,000 entries from 48 countries.
