Renowned Polish masterpiece to be removed from public viewing

The renowned Polish 114 metre-long masterpiece, Racławice Panorama was completed in 1894 and is in fine shape to this day. However, the same cannot be said for the building in Wrocław, western Poland, in which it is housed. Consequently it will undergo renovation to bring its facilities up to date. The works will get under way at the beginning of August and last for eight months.

A team of artists in the late nineteenth century, under the direction of Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak used 750 kilogrammes of paint to depict the renowned Raclawice Panorama.

The piece was painted to commemorate the Battle of Racławice against Russian forces in 1794.
