Health Minister Łukasz Szumowski called for intensified COVID-19 screenings in touristic localities, and also yellow- and red-marked districts, where additional restrictions are to be introduced on Saturday, Poland’s public broadcaster TVP reported on Friday.
The Health Minister told Wirtualna Polska website on Friday that he has already contacted Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński and Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Wąsik with regard to the intensified screenings.
“I have also asked the state sanitary authority [GIS] that behaviours in restaurants and shops in the ‘yellow’ and ‘red’ districts, but also at the coast and touristic localities be monitored more intensely,” the minister said and reminded the public that both nose and mouth had to be covered and that social distancing should be maintained.
Mr Szumowski also noted that the rate of infections at the coast was not as large as one would have expected it to be. The official pointed out that tourists were using windscreens and effectively maintaining the 1.5 m distance. “Moreover, the Polish coast is as windy as always,” the minister said.
