910 new COVID-19 infections in Poland, active cases rising

The Polish Ministry of Health announced on Sunday, September 20th that 910 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed by laboratory tests in the past 24 hours. That figure is the second highest since the beginning of the epidemic in Poland. The Ministry also reported that another 11 people have passed away from the disease.

Since the detection of the first coronavirus case in Poland, on March 4, laboratory tests have confirmed the infection in 79,240 people, with 2,293 fatalities recorded thus far. 441 people recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours.

The new cases reported on Sunday, concern people from the provinces: Mazowieckie (164), Wielkopolskie (123), Małopolskie (103), Opolskie (84), Śląskie (74), Podkarpackie (62), Pomorskie (55), Łódzkie (54), Dolnośląskie (45), Lubelskie (35) Kujawsko-Pomorskie (26), Warmińsko-Mazurskie (23), Podlaskie (21), Świętokrzyskie (18), Zachodniopomorskie (13), and Lubuskie (10).

The 11 people who passed away in the past 24 hours are reported to have been aged between 67 and 93, with most suffering from comorbidities.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health report that 1,985 hospital beds are currently occupied by COVID-patients, with 86 of the patients having been put on a ventilator.

64,302 patients have recovered from the disease, 11,751 people are under sanitary and epidemiological supervision while 118,212 people are in quarantine.

The US remains the country with the largest number of confirmed coronavirus cases, amounting to 6,967,420. India has the second most with 5,405,252 cases and Brazil third with 4,528,347.
