Zalipie, located in Małopolskie province, is undoubtedly the most colourful village in the country and a global phenomenon.
The village is known for the custom of decorating huts and elements of the household with floral paintings, which dates back to the end of the 18th century.
Thanks to Felicja Curyło, a local folk artist, Zalipie was one of the first villages in the region to receive electricity. She was also strongly involved in popularising Zalipie and its cultural legacy not only in Poland, but also abroad. After her death, her house was turned into a local museum and is available to visit.
Every year, folk artists take part in an annual competition for the best decorated hut, inaugurated in 1948.
You can reach Zalipie by travelling north from Tarnów, via route no. 973, then, paying attention to the road signs, turning east after passing Żelichów.
