Polish fuel company Orlen builds first petrol station in Slovakia

Poland's largest oil concern, PKN Orlen, has opened a petrol station in Dunajska Streda in southern Slovakia, the first such facility built by the Orlen Group in the country.

Previously, the Polish company developed its network of petrol stations on the Slovak market through acquisitions. Now Orlen has 13 such facilities operating there, with three more to be built in November, Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek tweeted on Wednesday.

"We are currently the fastest growing network of petrol stations in Slovakia," Obajtek wrote in a separate Twitter post.

Slovakia is the fifth country, after Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Lithuania, where Orlen Group stations operate. The Polish company appeared on the Slovak retail market in April 2019. In September 2019, PKN Orlen said it had received positive decisions of the Slovak and Austrian antitrust authorities on the development of the company's network on the Slovak market.

Orlen Group has over 2,800 service stations in all markets where it is present, the largest such network in Central and Eastern Europe, with the largest number of facilities, 1,792, operating in Poland.
