Iga Świątek continues to impress on the clay of Roland Garros as she defeated the Italian Martina Trevisan 6:3, 6:1 in the French Open quarterfinal, recording her career best result.
Both athletes met after shocking their high-ranked rivals in the Last 16 phase. The Pole outclassed the tournament’s number one, Simona Halep, while the Italian won against Kiki Bertens, seeded 5th.
The game was being postponed a few times due to the long-lasting clash in the men’s tournament. On top of that, inclement weather conditions were another inconvenience.
Once Świątek and Trevisan came onto the court, the latter, ranked over 100 places behind her rival, made an energetic start winning the first two games.
However, it was the young Pole who later regained control. Świątek would break her opponent’s serve on a few occasions, letting Trevisan win only two more games in the entire match.
