Wednesday brought another Grand Slam feat for Iga Świątek, who, along with her American partner Nicole Melichar, defeated Asia Muhammad and Jessica Pegula (both USA) 6:3, 6:4 in the French Open doubles’ quarterfinals.
About eighteen hours earlier, the young Pole reached her career-first semifinal in the Grand Slam singles after defeating the Italian Martina Trevisan.
The Polish-American pair will face the Chilean Alexa Guarachi and Desirae Krawczyk from the US in a Friday clash for the final.
Iga Świątek is following in the footsteps of an acclaimed Polish tennis player Jadwiga Jędrzejowska, who also reached the semi-finals in both singles and doubles in Paris in 1939. She ended up as a runner-up in the singles, and won the title in doubles.
However, one day before the challenge in the doubles, the Polish youngster will try to reach her first Grand Slam final in the singles. To achieve this, she has to defeat Nadia Podoroska of Argentina.
