President Andrzej Duda posted a short video on Twitter assuring Poles that he was well and would continue to work remotely, while self-isolating, together with the First Lady.
The President explained that the positive result of the coronavirus test came as a surprise, because he has had no symptoms of the illness:
“As a result of the coronavirus testing, I know I have been infected with the virus. I have not had and still do not have any symptoms, such as loss of smell and taste.. However, the test result is clear.”
Mr. Duda assured Poles that he would continue to work remotely:
“At this time, I feel fine. During the coming days I will remain in self-isolation, together with my wife. I will, of course, work remotely as there is no problem with that. As you can see, I am in good condition and I hope it will stay this way. However, the fact is that I must isolate and both, myself and my wife, will rigorously follow the safety rules.”
The President expressed concern for the health of the people he has been meeting over the past few days, emphasising at the same time that all safety rules had been followed at all times, which hopefully would result in no further infections.
“I would like to extend my apologies to everyone who must submit to the quarantine procedures due to recent meetings with me. If I had had any coronavirus symptoms at all, all meetings would have been cancelled. We have tried to follow all safety guidelines, such as face masks and gloves in situations of direct contact. I hope that no one will become ill. I believe that these safety measures and social distancing were sufficient,” stressed Andrzej Duda.
The President also appealed to everyone to take special care of seniors, particularly during the upcoming All Saints’ Day holiday:
“I would like to ask everyone to take care of senior citizens. All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day are approaching. It is a time when traditionally we all meet with our families, and visit the graves of our loved ones. This is also a time when we meet with our parents and grandparents. Please be extra careful during these meetings, because coronavirus is especially dangerous for them. Therefore I would like to ask seniors to stay home if at all possible. I would like to ask seniors to avoid public places where theoretically they could get infected. Please take care of seniors and be sensitive to their needs. Ask if they need anything, especially when they decide to stay home and avoid going to the shops. I would like to ask everyone to show this special sensitivity and social solidarity.”
President Duda concluded his short video by thanking everyone who sent him best wishes:
“I would like to thank everyone, who for the past several hours has been sending wishes of speedy recovery and good health my way. I am very grateful to you all. I also wish you all good health and all the best. Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
