Additional territorial forces soldiers engaged in helping medical staff

During this period of a rapidly growing number of COVID-19 infections, Territorial Defence Force (WOT) brigades are helping hospital staff collect samples in many places countrywide.

The 10th Świętokrzyska Territorial Defence Brigade has been operating at 12 sites across Świętokrzyskie province. Teams composed of a total of nearly 40 soldiers will collect samples at National Health Fund facilities.

At the beginning of the week, a training session for the soldiers of the 4th Warmian-Masurian Territorial Defence Brigade was attended by 50 soldiers, who became familiar with the procedure of collecting and securing samples. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Territorials from Warmińskie province have taken over 16,000 samples for further analysis.

WOT soldiers who are competent paramedics having completed the KPP course and specialised training in collecting samples and who are not full-time health care workers are allowed to support the epidemiological station and medical services.

In their activities, WOT focuses on supporting medical care, sanitary services and local governments. They carry out COVID-19 tests, help sick individuals in isolation, take care of residents in social welfare homes and support the police in monitoring compliance with the restrictions by quarantined persons.

Every day, about 1,500 members of WOT assist medical staff, according to the spokesman for the Territorial Defence Forces Colonel Marek Pietrzak.
