Józef Piłsudski became first Polish Army Marshal 100 years ago

On this day one hundred years ago, following the astounding victory over the Bolsheviks in 1920, one of its architects, Józef Piłsudski, received the Marshal Baton, a special ceremonial mace, to become the first Marshal of the Polish Army - the highest rank in the Polish Armed Forces.

It was a historic moment which took place at the Castle Square in Warsaw. The ceremony was attended by representatives of all accredited diplomatic posts in the country.
