After a heavy defeat to Italy, Jerzy Brzęczek, the coach of the Polish national team decided to change the starting line-up. According to unofficial reports, Mr Brzęczek’s job depended on the result and performance of the team in Wednesday’s game.

The match began in a perfect way for Poland. In the 5th minute, Poles took the ball from the Netherlands, Piotr Zieliński passed to Robert Lewandowski, and FC Bayern’s striker passed it to Kamil Jóźwiak on the left-wing. The winger for Derby County made it to the penalty box, passed the Dutch defenders and scored after hitting the post.

The Netherlands equalised with a penalty kick in the 75th minute. Poland’s Jan Bednarek pushed Georginio Wijnaldum in the box and Memphis Depay did not give Łukasz Fabiański, the Polish goalkeeper any chances from 11 metres. The Dutch players scored the final goal in the 84th minute. Steven Berghuis centred the ball from a corner kick and Wijnaldum put the ball in the net with a header. Poland’s performance was much better than in the match against Italy, but it was not enough for the Netherlands. The victory for “Oranje” did not allow them to win the group, as at the same time Italy defeated Bosnia & Herzegovina and so “Squadra Azzura” will play in the Final Four.

The Polish National team finished Group 1 in third place and secured its presence in Division A of the UEFA Nations League.
