"The presence of the advanced command of the V US Land Forces Corps in Poland is a guarantee of deterrence from a possible aggressor," said Mariusz Błaszczak, the head of the Ministry of Defence in Poznań on Friday during the inauguration of the command.
The head of the Ministry of National Defence recalled that the agreement between Poland and the US for enhanced defense cooperation was ratified two weeks ago by President Andrzej Duda.
"Today, we are witnessing this agreement come into force; we see its implementation. We have proved that both the declarations signed by Presidents Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump, as well as the agreement on enhanced cooperation (...) are not only sheets of paper, but they are real, concrete decisions," Minister Błaszczak noted.
Minister Błaszczak explained that joint actions of Poland and the US serve the security not only of Poland but also NATO countries located on the eastern flank of the Alliance. The Defense Minister assessed that cooperation within NATO is "the best guarantee of security and stability".
"We have become one of the major allies of the USA; this cooperation is a model. Not only do we benefit from the security provided by NATO, but we guarantee security through Polish participation in the whole system created within NATO and close cooperation with the NATO leader - the USA," he said.
The Minister of National Defense mentioned the modernisation of the Polish army and recalled the purchase of American armaments: F-35 planes, Patriot system, and HIMARS rockets. "All this serves to enable the Polish military to cooperate closely with the US and NATO armies," Mr Błaszczak stressed.
The head of the Ministry of Defence was also happy that the US decided to re-establish the Fifth Corps and locate the advanced command of this Corps in Poznań. "The presence of this command here on Polish soil is a guarantee of deterring a possible aggressor. From Poznań, the Fifth Corps will command the US land forces operating on the eastern flank of NATO," he noted.
