Black Friday 2020 bodes for record sales

Retail sales for the Black Friday shopping period are expected to soar this year, as shoppers pile onto online platforms owing to the coronavirus and restrictions.

Black Friday is becoming an increasingly important event in the Polish retail calendar, with sales almost doubling year after year, but 2020, according to the Rzeczpospolita daily, could turn out a bumper year.

The paper wrote that this year's Black Friday shopping activities involve an entire week of sales promotions. Currently, as most stores in shopping centres are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, shopping will be done mainly online.

Rzeczpospolita reported that an SW Research poll for e-commerce website Allegro showed that half of Poles wanted to shop on Black Friday, 19.6 percent did not, and the remainder had not yet made a decision. It also indicated that 45.4 percent of Polish consumers were counting on attractive prices for clothes and accessories, 42.7 percent were awaiting price reductions on household appliances and electronics, and 20 percent were anticipating sales on cosmetics.

The same study also showed that, in addition to discounts, among the factors that may encourage purchases are guarantees of free and speedy delivery, and extended service contracts and warranties.
