Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has been recognised as 2020’s top player at the FIFA Football Best Awards. He won more votes than fellow nominees Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lewandowski has enjoyed a truly phenomenal year as his Bayern Munich team secured a historic treble, scooping a domestic double and the Champions League. Furthermore the Polish marksman was top scorer in all three of the aforementioned competitions.
Poland’s number nine also made it into the FIFA best XI of 2020. There were seven categories for this year's awards, including best coach, player goalkeeper and goal in both the men’s and women's game.
The winners were nominated by captains and head coaches of all national teams, an online ballot of fans, and submissions from 200 media representatives.
The ceremony was a virtual affair which took place in Zurich, Switzerland.
