President Andrzej Duda honoured US Ambassador Georgette Mosbacher with the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland on Tuesday, the President's Office announced.
According to the presidential office, the order was awarded "in recognition of outstanding achievements in developing Polish-American friendly relations and cooperation, and for involvement in activities for international security." As reported, the ceremony was attended, among others, by Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau.
The President's Chancellery recalled that on September 18, 2018, Presidents Duda and Trump signed a declaration on a Polish-American strategic partnership, the pillars of which are: cooperation in the field of security and defence; power engineering; trade, investment and research and innovation.
The statement also emphasised that a symbolic moment in Polish-American relations was Poland's inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program, which took place on November 11, 2019. "The inclusion of Poland in the Visa Waiver Program was tangible proof that the strategic partnership between Poland and the USA is strong and authentic," emphasised the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.
Georgette Mosbacher took over the position of US Ambassador to Poland in August 2018.
