Snow, wind and cold: weather alert for south-eastern Poland

The Governmental Security Centre (RCB) has issued a weather alert for some of the regions in Lubelskie and Podkarpackie provinces in south-eastern Poland, warning about heavy snowfall and very difficult conditions on the roads.

“Alert of RCB issued in some regions of Lubelskie and Podkarpackie provinces. Warning! Tomorrow (Feb 7) heavy snowfall. Very difficult conditions on the roads. Call 112 when someone requires help. Possible interruptions in electricity supplies,” the announcement from RCB reads.

According to meteorologists of the Meteorology and Water Management Institute (IMGW), it is possible that the snow cover in coming days might increase by 50cm. Snowstorms, blizzards, as well as freezing rain and very low temperatures are forecast.

On the night of Saturday and Sunday, the lack of clouds over the north-east part of Poland will result in a significant decrease in temperature, which in Podlasie region might drop to -23°C.

Over the next few days, the intensive snowfall and gusty wind will result in very difficult conditions on roads. Most of the snow is expected across a line going through regions of Lubelszczyzna, Podkarpacie and Silesia, eastern to southern Poland.
