Tennis: Świątek’s Grand Slam victories series ends

Poland’s Iga Świątek lost 6:3, 1:6, 4:6 to Simona Halep of Romania in the round of 16 of the Australian Open.

This was the third clash between the players, at the 2019 French Open the winner was Halep, while last year, Świątek was victorious.

This time, the Romanian player ended Świątek’s impressive run of 10 consecutive Grand Slam matches without dropping a set.

The Polish player started wel, taking the opening set, but Halep took control of the second set 6:1 and continued her momentum into the third to take victory.

The Romanian player will next face Serena Williams of the US.

This defeat does not mean that Świątek bids farewell to the Australian Open, as she and Łukasz Kubot play together the mixed couples and await their match in the round of 16.
