Robert Kubica was honoured with the "Golden Steering Wheel", the oldest automotive award in the Czech Republic. The Polish driver received the award in the "personality of the world of motorsport" category.
The main partner of the competition and co-organiser of the "Golden Steering Wheel" gala was the PKN ORLEN Group. In the justification of the choice, it was stressed that Robert Kubica has been creating the history of Polish motorsport.
In an interview with the Polish Radio, Robert Kubica stated that he did not recognise the award as a summary of his career, because a lot could happen in the future.
"Today my role in the Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen team is clear and I try to do it the best I can. Of course my DNA and being a racing driver are at odds with this position. I want to race, that's why I tried very hard to be able to do it in other categories”, he said.
In recent days, it has been announced that in the 2021 season, Robert Kubica will compete in long-distance races for the Belgian WRT team in the European Le Mans Series. The Polish driver treats this as a new challenge.
Robert Kubica will also continue to be the test driver of the Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen team in Formula 1. This year's Formula One season will start on the last weekend of March with the race for the Bahrain Grand Prix.
During the "Golden Steering Wheel" gala, apart from Robert Kubica, the best Czech drivers of the last season who won in the Internet voting were awarded.
