Almost half of Belarusian IT specialists leaving their country choose Poland, said Mateusz Morawiecki, Polish Prime Minister and Minister of Digitisation, quoted in the GovTech press release.
"Thanks to the ‘Poland. Business Harbor’ programme (...) Poland is an attractive place for career and company development. The fact that almost half of them [Belarusians] choose our country proves that the programmes we have created works and supports both democracy in Belarus and the Polish digital sector", the Prime Minister Morawiecki stressed.
As stated in the press release, in 2019 the Belarusian IT sector was responsible for almost half of the country's GDP growth. Belarusian programmers are also one of the largest groups supporting the Belarusian opposition, and therefore the target of repression by the country’s ruling regime.
The ‘Poland. Business Harbor’ programme is a comprehensive support package for Belarusian IT specialists and companies from this sector - both start-ups and fully developed enterprises. Its purpose is to enable easy relocation of each of these groups. It is a joint initiative of GovTech centre in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and numerous ministries. Over 5,000 Belarusians have already benefited from the programme.
