The head of US diplomacy, Antony Blinken, spoke to Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau by phone on Tuesday. "Poland is a devoted ally in NATO and an invaluable partner," he wrote after the interview on Twitter.
“It was a pleasure to talk to Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau today to reaffirm the nature of close and lasting Polish-American relations and promote further cooperation in Europe and beyond. Poland is a devoted ally within NATO and an invaluable partner," Blinken wrote on Twitter.
Tuesday's phone call was the first such contact between Polish and US heads of diplomacy since Blinken took office.
The new US Secretary of State was approved by the US Senate in late January. He is an experienced diplomat who was the US Deputy Secretary of State under President Obama.
In an October statement to PAP, Blinken assured that President Biden "is completely committed to strengthening the security of NATO allies, including Poland." In the context of the new US administration's relationship with Warsaw, he said that he "welcomed the opportunity to frankly discuss the importance of our democratic commitments."
