New Horizons Intl Film Festival goes online

A total of 216 movies from such renowned filmmakers as Agnieszka Holland, Celine Sciamma, Pedro Almodovar and Paolo Sorrentino will be made available for viewers to behold on the New Horizons International Film Festival’s VOD platform as the event of years-long standing goes online in the pandemic reality.

The festival’s art director Marcin Pieńkowski told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that Polish areas of the Internet lacked a space dedicated entirely to art cinema — a gap that New Horizons, together with the Gutek Film distributor, sought to fill. “We wanted to create a curated platform, which means, one where we would not merely put ‘everything that comes about’ but rather carry out a scrutinous selection,” he said.

The 216 movies available on the platform as of Friday were taken from the “catalogues of the New Horizons and Gutek Film distributor who partners our project… We’ve got movies from Jim Jarmusch, Pedro Almodovar, Celine Sciamma, Michael Hanek… Katharina Vasconcelos’ ‘The Metamorphosis of Birds’, Mark Jenkin’s ‘Bait’, Isabel Ekloef’s ‘Holiday’. You can’t find these movies anywhere else. For starters, you can also watch ‘DAU. Natasha’ — controversially striking cinema and a highlight of the autumn edition of New Horizons, an image awarded during last year’s Berlinale,” Mr Pieńkowski said.

Moreover, viewers will have the opportunity to watch the latest movie by Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland entitled “Charlatan” — a picture that won four Oscars and the Cannes’ Golden Palm of 2019. And yes, you would be able to watch Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” as well. If that is not enough, the movie base will be expanded to about 500 titles by the end of the year.

The platform also provides a subsite containing movies dedicated to children.

Available as of Friday, February 26, 2021, to use the platform follow the link, open a free account and purchase access to one’s preferred movie.
