Athletics: Lewandowski scoops silver at European Indoor Championships

Marcin Lewandowski won silver medal in 1,500 metres, while Michał Haratyk came second in shot-put at the European Athletics Indoor Championships taking place in Toruń, central Poland.

In the 1,500 metres contest, Lewandowski came second only after Jakob Ingebrigtsen from Norway. However, the Norwegian runner was disqualified for crossing the outside lane and the gold went to the Pole. Another Polish runner in the contest, Michał Rozmys, finsihed in sixth place.

Just after midnight, it was announced that the jury took into consideration the protest submitted by the Norwegian team. Finally, they awarded the title of the champion to Ingebrigtsen.

In the shot-put competition, the winner was Tomáš Staněk from the Czech Republic, who recorded 21.62m, while Filip Mihaljević from Croatia took bronze. Haratyk’s best result was 21.47m.

On Saturday, Justyna Święty-Ersetic, who set the new country’s indoor record in the semifinals on Friday, will have an opportunity to improve the Polish medal toll. In the 400 metres event, she will try to take on sensational Femke Bol from the Netherlands, a leader of the season’s world ranking.
