The Polish national team fell from 19th to 21st place in the ranking of the International Football Federation (FIFA). Belgium is the current leader, ahead of the reigning world champions France and Brazil.
England, the rival against whom Poland recently lost 1:2 in London in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, currently ranks fourth.
In March, the Polish team also drew with Hungary 3:3 in an away match and defeated Andorra 3:0 at home. Hungary is ranked 37th while Andorra is 158th. The two other group rivals in the World Cup qualifiers: Albania and San Marino, are 66th and 210th respectively.
In turn, Spain, Sweden and Slovakia, the opponents of Poland in EURO 2020, rescheduled for June 2021 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, are ranked 6th, 18th, and 36th respectively.
For the next matches of the Polish national team, fans will have to wait until June. In the friendlies preceding EURO 2020, the team managed by Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa are set to test their form in games against Russia and Iceland. Then, at the tournament, Poland will take on Slovakia, Sweden and Spain in the group stage which will determine the participants of the knockout phase.
